Ta-Nehisi Coates nació en Baltimore en 1975, es un escritor, periodista y activista estadounidense, reconocido por su análisis profundo sobre la historia y la experiencia afroamericana en Estados Unidos.
Hijo de William Paul Coates, exmiembro de las Panteras Negras y fundador de Black Classic Press, y de Cheryl Waters, profesora, Coates creció en un entorno que valoraba la literatura y la conciencia política.
