Louis Althusser's renowned short text 'Ideology and Ideological State Apparatuses' radically transformed the concept of the subject, the understanding of the state and even the very frameworks of cultural, political and literary theory. Louis Althusser (1918-1990) fue un destacado filósofo marxista francés, reconocido por su relectura estructuralista de Marx, enfocándose en la "ruptura epistemológica" y el "Marx científico" frente al humanismo. Profesor en la École Normale Supérieure, influyó en pensadores como Foucault y Derrida. Fue miembro del Partido Comunista Francés, crítico con el estalinismo, y teorizó sobre la ideología. En 1980 asesinó a su esposa Hélène Rytmann durante un episodio psiquiátrico, falleciendo años después tras su reclusión.
