Reseña del libro "Math That Makes Sense Book One: Accessing Basic Mathematical Concepts in Common Everyday Language (en Inglés)"

Mathematical concepts must be accessible to everyone who possesses a desire to learn. The concepts covered in this book are designed specifically for those learners who need to be shown an alternative approach to mathematics in simple, everyday language. The techniques in Math That Makes Sense are tried and true methods that help learners succeed in acquiring mathematical skills and knowledge. The methods help students succeed, build trust and reduce math anxiety while developing essential problem solving tools. Math That Makes Sense Book One begins with the two basic mathematical concepts that people deal with the most: money and time. Each subsequent mathematical concepts build on real-life examples with concepts explained using common language. Topics include mathematical properties, order of operations, combining like terms, the coordinate plane, graphing lines, solving equations, fractions, proportions, geometry, area, number sets and test taking skills. These topics were chosen for Book One based on the most frequently asked questions from students who demand alternative approaches to learning mathematics. Ms. Newmyer completed her undergraduate education with a double major in Mathematics and Social Studies with an emphasis in Secondary Education from Adams State University in the year 2000. She also completed her graduate degree with a MA in Mathematics from the University of Houston in 2010. She has been an educator since 2000 and an alternative education mathematics instructor since 2011. Ms. Newmyer's professional passion is equity in STEM education. At the National level she has given presentations to STEM educators about equal access to STEM for all students with an emphasis on alternative approaches for involving at-risk students in STEM.
