J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973) fue un influyente escritor, poeta, filólogo y profesor británico, célebre por sus obras de fantasía heroica. Profesor en la Universidad de Oxford y miembro del grupo literario los Inklings (con C.S. Lewis), Tolkien fue nombrado Comendador de la Orden del Imperio Británico en 1972. Su obra ha marcado un hito en la literatura fantástica.
