Roberto Bolaño Ávalos (Santiago de Chile, 1953 – Barcelona, 2003) fue un escritor y poeta chileno que se convirtió en una de las voces más originales e influyentes de la literatura hispanoamericana contemporánea. Su obra renovó la novela latinoamericana al desafiar los géneros tradicionales y dejar una marca personal profunda. Durante su juventud, vivió en Chile y México, donde fundó el movimiento poético infrarrealista, que definió sus primeros años como escritor. En 1973 regresó a Chile para apoyar al gobierno de Allende, pero tras el golpe militar fue arrestado y luego regresó a México para dedicarse plenamente a la literatura. A finales de los años setenta se estableció en España, donde vivió hasta su muerte.
