Evelyn Waugh (1903–1966) fue un novelista británico reconocido por su aguda sátira social y su prosa elegante. Educado en Lancing College y Hertford College, Oxford, trabajó brevemente como profesor antes de dedicarse por completo a la escritura. Sus experiencias en la Segunda Guerra Mundial influyeron notablemente en su obra, especialmente en la trilogía Espada de honor (1952–1961).

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran Decadencia y caída (1928), Un puñado de polvo (1934), ¡Noticia bomba! (1938) y Retorno a Brideshead (1945), esta última considerada una de sus novelas más influyentes. También escribió biografías, libros de viajes y relatos cortos, consolidándose como una figura central en la literatura inglesa del siglo XX.
