Robert Hans Van Gulik (Zutphen, 1910-La Haya, 1967), orientalista, diplomático y escritor neerlandés. Vivió su infancia en Yakarta (Indonesia), donde aprendió varios idiomas, entre ellos el chino mandarín. A su vuelta a Holanda, se licenció y doctoró en Orientalismo en la Universidad de Leyden. Trabajó para el Gobierno holandés en China y Japón, de donde fue evacuado cuando estalló la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Tras varios años viajando por Oriente, fue nombrado embajador de Holanda en Japón. Es autor de monografías y ensayos sobre temática oriental.
