Terry Goodkind (1948–2020) fue un escritor estadounidense nacido en Omaha, Nebraska, reconocido por su serie de fantasía épica La espada de la verdad. A pesar de sufrir dislexia, trabajó como ebanista y artista antes de dedicarse a la escritura. Su primera novela, El libro de las sombras contadas (Wizard’s First Rule, 1994), marcó el inicio de una saga que vendió más de 25 millones de ejemplares y fue traducida a más de 20 idiomas. La serie fue adaptada a la televisión bajo el título Legend of the Seeker.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran La piedra de las lágrimas (Stone of Tears, 1995), El templo de los vientos (Temple of the Winds, 1997), La fe de los caídos (Faith of the Fallen, 2000) y La cadena de fuego (Chainfire, 2005).
