Denise Mina, nacida en 1966 en East Kilbride, Escocia, es una destacada escritora de novelas policíacas, dramaturga y guionista de cómics. Su obra se enmarca en el género de la ficción criminal, con un enfoque particular en el subgénero conocido como "Tartan Noir". Entre sus trabajos más reconocidos se encuentra la trilogía de Garnethill, compuesta por "Garnethill" (1998), "Exile" (2000) y "Resolution" (2001). Otra serie notable es la protagonizada por Patricia "Paddy" Meehan, que incluye títulos como "The Field of Blood" (2005) y "The Dead Hour" (2006).

Mina también ha creado la serie de Alex Morrow, introducida en "Still Midnight" (2009), seguida por "The End of the Wasp Season" (2010) y "Gods and Beasts" (2012). Su novela "The Long Drop" (2017) recibió el Premio McIlvanney a la Novela Policíaca Escocesa del Año y el Premio Gordon Burn.
