However, don't do yourself, others and God a disservice. If your love for yourself and others is shallow or mediocre then you are not fulfilling your obligation to yourself or to God. The effects of a lack of self-love could be detrimental, yet the benefits of having a good amount of it can be tremendous. Self-Love has a domino effect. It starts with loving yourself. This leads to higher self-esteem. Next, your self-confidence increases (which is intrinsic, completely independent on what is going on in your life). Lastly - and most importantly - when your self-love is abundant, you can begin to love people unconditionally. While many people use the term, "unconditional love," it is important to know that this is a love that doesn't get jealous. It doesn't envy other people for what they have. It is able to forgive and move forward. It wishes the best for those who have done them wrong in the past. When you master love for yourself, your whole perception of the world will change.
