By the time Yvonne was nine years old she had attended more funerals than she could remember. She was the only one left of her family now. She endured the death of her sisters, her uncles. She spent time in the hospitals with both her Mom and Dad, listening to the carnival song of the respirators as they each worked towards their last breath. And then planning each funeral. It was clear, the great presence of death in her life. But, she also pondered the happy things in her life. She embraced her love for the beach, her Panamanian heritage including its distinct Caribbean culture, the food, family gatherings, the fighting and the loving. She embraced the Sand, Water, Fire & Tears.
