Ganó reconocimiento internacional por su papel de Kurt Hummel en la serie musical "Glee" (2009–2015), actuación que le valió el Globo de Oro al Mejor Actor de Reparto en una Serie en 2011.

Además de su carrera actoral, Colfer es autor de la exitosa serie de libros de fantasía "The Land of Stories".
