Reseña del libro "Girls in Science: Voices for Change: Tips for Equality and Inclusion in Schools, Workplaces, and Communities (en Inglés)"

There's a serious lack of equality, diversity, and inclusion in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. We, as a society, have an incredible opportunity to take steps to promote inclusivity that will lead to more collaboration, brilliance, and groundbreaking advancements which will not only make this world a better place but also further our understanding of one another, improve goodwill towards others, and make society richer on many levels. Girls in Science: Voices for Change, will not only inspire fresh ideas on equity and diversity based on youthful thinking, it will also present tangible and practical guidelines for inclusion. Why does it matter? Without a breadth of perspectives, we have no chance of solving the world's problems-big and small. The absence of diversity in science will not be solved simply by a recruitment strategy; we need to create inclusive and accepting environments so that girls and underrepresented groups don't get pushed out of the STEM fields. What's InsideLearn how: -More inclusive environments can be created on teams, and in schools, workplaces, and communities-Gender-bias in toys and marketing can limit girls' and boys' interests-Diverse role models can directly and indirectly influence self-confidence and career choices-Male champions and allies can help pave the way for more equality and breakthroughs in the workplace-Language and communication styles can unintentionally cause misconceptions and alienate others-Microsponsorship techniques can counteract the negative impact of microaggressionDo you want to be a part of a movement that will lead to more inclusive environments for youth? Through the discussions in this book, learn how you can make changes to create more equitable, diverse, and inclusive environments, especially in the STEM fields. Proceeds of this book will be donated to FIRST Robotics Canada's EDI initiatives. This book is for: -high school students-parents, teachers, mentors, and educators-non-profit leaders-corporate executives and managers-STEM enthusiasts-gender-equality advocatesRecommendations"This book is required reading for anyone who wants to see our next generation of young scientists succeed-from parents to educators to community leaders, Girls in Science: Voices for Change contains practical information on how we can all contribute to changing the culture of STEM for our children. By sharing girls' stories in their own voices, Kim Cooper gives us an eye-opening look at the challenges our young women face in engaging with STEM activities and the role we as a society play in perpetuating those challenge. Nevertheless, Kim's voice and the girls' voices also reveal tremendous potential for change. With helpful suggestions for change and tips for action that anyone can begin incorporating into their life, Girls in Science: Voices for Change sets out a powerful agenda for transformation, and gives us a blueprint for a better, more inclusive future."- Dr. Jennifer Gardy, Associate Professor, Scientist and Science-television HostAbout the AuthorKim Cooper is the vice president of partnerships at FIRST Robotics Canada, a charity encouraging kids and youth in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Kim is also co-chair of the Girls in STEM Executive Advisory Council and was recognized by Microsoft as an inspiring Canadian leader in business and technology.
