Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa (Arequipa, 28 de marzo de 1936 – Lima, 13 de abril de 2025), marqués de Vargas Llosa, fue un novelista, ensayista y académico peruano, nacionalizado español en 1993 y dominicano en 2022. Figura clave del “boom” latinoamericano junto a Gabriel García Márquez, Julio Cortázar y Carlos Fuentes, es considerado uno de los grandes narradores en lengua española del siglo XX y XXI. Recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 2010, el Premio Cervantes en 1994, el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Letras en 1986, el Premio Rómulo Gallegos en 1967 y el Premio Planeta en 1993, entre otros reconocimientos internacionales.

Alcanzó proyección mundial en los años sesenta con La ciudad y los perros, La casa verde y Conversación en La Catedral. Su obra posterior amplió horizontes temáticos y geográficos con títulos como La guerra del fin del mundo, La fiesta del Chivo y El sueño del celta. En 2023 publicó Le dedico mi silencio, anunciada como su última novela. Su legado perdura como una de las cumbres de la narrativa contemporánea y del pensamiento liberal en el ámbito hispanoamericano.
