Marco Polo (1254-1324) fue un mercader, viajero y escritor veneciano célebre por sus relatos sobre sus viajes a Asia. Su obra más famosa, El libro de las maravillas del mundo (circa 1300), también conocido como Los viajes de Marco Polo, documenta sus experiencias en la corte del emperador mongol Kublai Kan y sus exploraciones por China y otras regiones de Oriente.
