The inventor is the most important member of society, if often maligned. The whole of our modern civilisation is based on invention; someone had to be the first person to make fire, chip flint, make string or weave. The process is ongoing and accelerating. There is a greater need for invention now than ever before, even if some of the inventions are required to cope with the unexpected consequences of past invention. This has always been the case. If you start a flint chipping site, you might have to invent shoes to cope with the splinters. Above all, inventing should be fun! You may find that your friends think you are a bit odd on occasion. That is because they need educating; if that is not possible, perhaps you need different friends. If you are inventing and they are reactionary, the one thing that is certain is that you are right and they are wrong.
