The underlying theme of words and their meanings adds an educational slant (but not one the children will notice) and the plethora of endearingly fallible characters lends a spark of realism to what is otherwise a comic fantasy novel. There's something for everyone, and a pervasive humour that will cross the generational boundaries and appeal to children and adults alike. If you're a fan of Mr Gum, the Mr Men, Monty Python, Outnumbered or Miranda, you'll love this.
