Strengthen reading comprehension, reading fluency, and writing skills with the lessons in Barker Creek's popular Reading Fundamentals - Idioms Activity Book. Because the actual meaning of idioms differ from the literal meaning of the words used to construct them, idioms are one of the most difficult concepts English Language Learners have to master in order to truly understand our complex language. For each example given, students are asked to 1) draw the "literal" meaning of the idiom (for example, they are asked to draw "a piece of cake"), 2) explain, in their own words, what they think the idiom means, 3) color an illustrated definition of the idiom's actual meaning and then add this definition to their student created "Idioms Booklets", and 4) define the meaning of the idiom as used within the context of a short story. Two review tests are included to assess student understanding. Create at least 50 additional lessons using the Reproducible Templates and list of More Idioms also included in this book.
