This collection of stories by Betty Chandler Williamson spans eight generations of Florida history from 1861 to the present day. From ancestors who settled what is now the City of Okeechobee to her description of growing up during the Great Depression and World War II, she gives great insight as to what her generation experienced and the sacrifices made to secure home and country. Betty Chandler Williamson is a fifth generation Floridian whose ancestors first settled what is now the City of Okeechobee. Having served as President of the Okeechobee Historical Society for many years, it is no surprise that Miz Betty devotes her time to documenting her family's genealogy and history of her ancestral homeland. Her husband of more than six decades, Frank (Sonny) Williamson, Jr., is also a fifth generation Floridian. Crediting her parents and teachers for her inspiration, she has published stories in local and regional newspapers, magazines and created two books based on the history of Okeechobee County. "Strolling Down Country Roads: A Pictorial History of Okeechobee" is still in demand and her second, most recent publication, "Pilots That Have Flown into the Okeechobee County Airport in the Twentieth Century" provides a unique and interesting aspect of local history. Her love for, and dedication to, her family and community is reflected in the stories she lovingly creates.
