Dr. Borishade unapologetically asserts the viability of African traditional knowledge and African reality. She demonstrates the appropriateness of utilizing that knowledge as a wedge that cracks open and creates its own space within the colonial discourses on Africa and African people. Within these pages this scholar-activist presents a philosophical and historical discussion drawn from traditional African thought and belief. She presents a bright new vision of Liberian history and inspires new meaning for a broader, more inclusive history of Liberian people. With this literary offering, Dr. Borishade attempts to restore Liberians' consciousness back to its real condition of knowing who they are by showing them who their ancestors were and what they contributed to humanity and to world civilization in ages past. The professor suggests that Liberians can use this information to explore their reasons for existence. Her philosophical approach is combined with longitudinal and global scopes in this book. She hopes this approach will inspire new levels of discourse and new possibilities for national identity, social stability, peace, reconciliation, and national unity in Liberia.
