Edited by one of the leading linguists in Igala language studies, this book appears to be the very first volume of its kind to handle a range of topics in Igala language studies by native speaker linguists and language experts themselves, telling the story as it is in the native speaker's tune.The book contains ten chapters. Chapter one introduces the reader to the progress made so far in Igala language studies as well as the challenging issues. Chapter two describes in detail the phonology of Igala. In chapter three, the subject matter of Igala morphology is addressed. Chapter four is a detailed description of Igala syntax from a transformational generative perspective. Chapter five introduces semantics into the scene as it dwells on sense and meaning relations in Igala. Chapter six discusses Igala oral literature as it relates to contents and classification while chapter seven focuses on Igala proverbs with particular reference to information content, structure and style. Chapter eight discusses Igala history and culture. Chapter nine handles Igala traditional education whereas chapter ten takes a look at the significance of twins and twin images among the Igala.
