Taking all the information provided in Homer's epics, he solves the question of Odysseus' home island and proves on the basis of solid philological evidence that Odysseus' fictitious wanderings take him through actual geographical locations that lose nothing of their factuality by being reported in the form of mythological narration. In addition, new findings about the history of the story make a ground-breaking contribution to solving the Homeric Question itself. Now the historical figure of the Odyssey's author and his homeland can be reliably pinned down. In addition to a wealth of new arguments, Warnecke has expanded the second edition by adding a chapter about the history of the Ithaca question. Er lost unter Berucksichtigung aller Angaben der Homerischen Epen die Frage nach der Heimatinsel des Odysseus und weist auf solider philologischer Basis nach, dass die fiktive Irrfahrt des Odysseus durch geographische Raume fuhrt, die in der Form mythisierender Narration nichts an Realitat einbussen. Zudem sind die stoffgeschichtlichen Erkenntnisse wegweisend fur die Losung der Homerischen Frage. Auch konnen nun die historische Personlichkeit des Odyssee-Dichters und dessen Heimat verlasslich fixiert werden. Neben einer Fulle neuer Argumente erganzt Warnecke die zweite Auflage um ein Kapitel zur Geschichte der Ithaka-Frage.
