"Heart Sutra (心經) " in third movement, Soul - Induction - Call! This movement was completed in "unconscious" condition. Before writing, a friend sent me a lot of songs for "Heart Sutra (心經) ", a wide range of variety. I listened all carefully. But after listening, I felt that all are the popular ordinary songs, and all sound no big difference. In writing the first two movements, I gradually and more and more clearly felt that there is an inner driving force to go with hexatonic scale system. The 12-tone systems of notes are divided into two perfectly symmetrical, each group containing one of the six notes. Because it is completely symmetrical, applying mathematical concept, as long as one group is expressed, another group of expression is exactly the same, with just half a degree sound out of the phase only. So how shall the music development employ the hexatonic scale system? I thought about the application of the 12 tone sequence method. In the Heart Sutra, my understanding is that the most important rule is that smaller scale lives or matters are reflected in the large-scale universe, or in other words, they are the same in an imaginary cross-section view.In structural arrangements in the music, I used three systems to reflect the understanding. First is a large cycle, the music beginning from B to end at A flat. Inside the large cycle, there is a series of small cycles. Strings pace in quarter notes, and woodwinds cycle twice as slower as the pace of the strings in half notes. Thus, the sequences of the different paces follow the same "route". And "you" are "me", and "me" are also among "you". Music sounds very religious, but is quite different from the songs heard ever before, because lack of six tones (half from 12 tones), thus very unique. Why is this? Is it right? I can only explain that it complies with the rule intended. In religions, Buddhism is represented by the symbol commonly known as "Srivatsa" meaning lucky ocean clouds, which divides the world. The two lines of the symbol are exactly the same and symmetrical. Provoking a Christian cross, which consists of two identical straight lines also, divide the world in similar way.
