Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure for the removal of the uterus. It may also be applied for the removal of the ovaries, cervix, fallopian tubes and their surrounding structures. Hysterectomy can be total or partial. When the ovaries are removed, a woman loses her ability to bear children with associated changes to the hormonal balance.
