Shirley Jackson (San Francisco 1916 – Bennington 1965) estudió en la Universidad de Syracuse. En 1948 publicó su primera novela, The Road Through the Wall, y el cuento «La lotería» (incluido en el volumen Cuentos escogidos), un clásico del siglo xx.
