In the twenty-third Spencer Hardesty adventure, it's a case of stolen identity, just not in the way one might imagine. With little or no help from the internet, someone is playing an unsettling game with John Dunne; pretending to be him and offering his money in huge amounts to worthy people all over Chicago. When the conman makes it into the newspaper, telling photograph and all, John Dunne realizes he has to do something about it. That's where Spencer Hardesty comes in. Spencer takes John's case and discovers that not only has John Dunne been targeted, but, based on the conman's victims, Spencer is forced to consider the idea that maybe he's been targeted as well. So, the game is on, from both sides of the table and Spencer, with the help of Emma, Addison Grace and Eve, is playing to win. But the culprit is no ordinary person and has designs beyond just embarrassing John Dunne. Could it be he longs to live John's life? And if that's the case, what will he do with John? When Trey Banner calls Spencer out of the blue with news from heaven, the game takes a dangerous turn and Spencer must move if he's going to stop the impostor before it's too late.
