The Isle of Skye, off the northwestern coast of Scotland, is the largest of the Inner Hebrides. Surnames include: Beaton or Bethune, Campbell, Elder, MacAlister (tracing "their origin to Alasdair, or Alexander, a son of Angus Mòr of the Clan Donald"), MacDonald, MacInnes, MacIvor, MacKinnon, MacLean, MacLeod, MacQueen, Martins, and Nicholson.
