Barrow County is home to the most underrated athlete from Georgia— Kamar Baldwin. Kamar played basketball for Apalachee High School in Winder, setting numerous records while dominating every game. He proved himself as one of the best in all of Georgia, earning numerous state honors. Yet despite all of his accomplishments, he was only rated as a three-star recruit and missed the Top 100 of the major rankings. He was passed on by many of college basketball’s traditional powerhouses. Instead, he attended Butler University where he proved himself to be an elite player and one of the best in the country. Baldwin also receives tremendous praise from his teammates, coaches, and instructors for his character, something even more impressive than his skills. Kamar represents all that is great about Barrow County. This book follows the story of Kamar from his very beginnings and illuminates what shaped him into the player and person he is today. The main body of this book, Spirit of Barrow, features a personal narrative of Kamar Baldwin’s journey before and during his high school days at Apalachee. It outlines the amazing on-court and off-court presence that the Winder-native had for the first eighteen years of his life. This narrative is also accented by an introduction which discusses Barrow County history and the environment where he grew up, by a concise analysis of just what Kamar embodies about our community, by a shorter biography of his life through the words of others, by an extensive collection of his remarkable high school statistics, and by a personal word from Kamar himself.
