NASA has discovered what it believes to be an Earth-like planet hundreds of light years from our solar system. The agency has also developed a starship capable of light-speed and able to explore other star-systems in our galaxy. NASA has been given approval to launch a mission to the planet Nyvar. Six astronauts, three men, and three women, have been selected to journey to the newly discovered planet. The astronauts, if their one-way mission is successful, will either become the first humans to visit Nyvar or our envoys to an existing civilization on that planet. The mission is launched and the astronauts begin their journey at light-speed in the most advanced spacecraft ever constructed. The Revelation begins a trek that will take it beyond our solar system, past the stars that make up the constellation Orion, trillions of miles in the direction of the Crab Nebula. With the crew in hibernation, a malfunction in the ship's master computer causes the Revelation to follow an incorrect course. The ship forges through deep space, not toward the intended planet Nyvar, but on an elliptical path returning it back to Earth - Earth in the thirty-fourth century. The Revelation astronauts find themselves on a world vastly different from the one they left only a year ago in their lifetimes, but thirteen centuries earlier in Earth time.
