Bury St Edmunds is a proud and traditional medieval market town that has managed to preserve its identity in the face of postwar modernisation and today attracts thousands of visitors to enjoy its unique charms. St Johns Street was saved by concerned residents in 1971 and is still full of distinctive independent shops today.
