Francis Sancher--a handsome outsider, loved by some and reviled by others--is found dead, face down in the mud on a path outside Riviere au Sel, a small village in Guadeloupe. Maryse Condé (nacida como Maryse Boucolon; Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadalupe, 11 de febrero de 1934-Apt, 2 de abril de 2024) fue una escritora guadalupeña, territorio francés de ultramar. Erudita en literatura francófona, reconocida feminista y activista difusora de la historia y la cultura africana, destaca su vasta productividad como autora y su versatilidad para escribir ficción histórica, cuentos, novelas, ensayos y otros géneros. Es especialmente conocida por su novela Segú (1984-1985). En 2018 recibió el Premio Nobel Alternativo de Literatura. En el año 2021 recibió el Prix Mondial Cino del Duca por su labor humanista en la cultura
