Yes, I admit it. Just like the book's title suggests - I was once a control freak. I was an "old-school" micro-manager. But, the good news is I've seen the errors of my ways and I'm here to confess my sins in the hope that first time team leaders, supervisors and managers can learn what not to do - and more importantly - what to do - when communicating and interacting with associates, colleagues and clients. As a trained behaviorist, I believe we aren't born knowing how to manage or lead people effectively. It's a learned behaviour. And yes - in my 40+ year career as an award winning entrepreneur and general manager for one Canada's best managed and most profitable companies - I've committed each one of them at one time or another. I know from my own experiences what works and what doesn't work. If I knew then what I know now - there is no question I would have managed differently.
