I warmly recommend this book, both for the general reader, and for scholars. It is informative - but at times heart-rending. It is informative about the very difficult conditions which prevailed in The Netherlands under Nazi occupation - the mass starvation, the constant fear of deportation for forced labour in Germany,faced by the general population, or to extermination camps in the case of the Jews. Clear, precise, informative, heart-rending.
